SOUTH BEND — The YMCA of Michiana is hosting its eighth annual 3-for-3 Triathlon at 8:30 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 22, at the Riverview Family YMCA in South Bend. Proceeds from this event benefit the LIVESTRONG at the YMCA, a free program for adult cancer survivors.

Organizers said the event is perfect for active families or for anyone who has ever wanted to take on a triathlon challenge. The 3-for-3 includes all traditional triathlon activities with shortened distances and fun twists. Participants will run and bike along the Riverwalk in South Bend, swim in the pool at the Riverview Family YMCA, or may choose to kayak in the St. Joseph River in place of the swim.

“This is a great opportunity to get the whole family active and involved in supporting a great program,” said race director Charity Schneider. “LIVESTRONG at the YMCA supports local cancer survivors right here in the Michiana community.”

LIVESTRONG at the YMCA is a 12-week exercise program and support group for adult cancer survivors to help achieve improved wellness at no cost. This small-group program helps survivors reclaim their health and well-being following a cancer diagnosis by working with certified LIVESTRONG at the YMCA instructors on cardiovascular endurance, strength training, balance, and flexibility, organizers said.

The cost for the adult race and relay is $55; the youth and teen races and fun relay is $30. Online registration is available until 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 20. Registration will also be available Saturday, Sept. 21 at packet pick-up. Day-of-registration is not available.
