Bucks come up short against Coloma

BUCHANAN — A late Buchanan rally came up short against visiting Coloma Friday night.

The Bucks trailed the Comets (1-2) 14-0 when Sam Riley found the end zone on a three-yard run. The PAT was blocked and Buchanan was unable to get the tying touchdown in a 14-6 loss that left it 0-3 on the season.

Neither team reached the end zone until the final 12 minutes of the game.

Noah Schwanke got the Comets on the board with 6:06 remaining in the contest. Drew Goodline’s conversion run was good and Coloma led 8-0.

Goodline would score the game-winning touchdown four minutes later on a one-yard run. This time the PAT failed.

Buchanan drove down the field on the ensuing possession and scored with 46 ticks remaining on the clock.

Defense was the star of Friday night’s contest as neither team reached the 200 yard mark.

Coloma outgained Buchanan 185 to 152 in total offense. The Comets ran for 118 of those yards. Buchanan conversely, threw for 136 of its yards.

Riley and Johnny Rager both finished with 68 yards passing. Riley was 7-of-12 and Rager 6-of-13.

Levi Zelmer led the team in receiving with three receptions for 36 yards.

Cam Lorance led the Bucks defensive with seven and a half tackles. Aiden Kile finished with six and a half tackles. Gavin Fazi had six stops.

Buchanan hits the road to face perennial state powerhouse Constantine Friday night.
