Niles golfer finish fourth at SMAC West jamboree

BENTON HARBOR — The Niles girls golf team finished fourth at the SMAC West Division jamboree at Berrien Hills Country Club Tuesday.
St. Joseph shot 188 to win the jamboree. Mattawan was a distant second at 202, while Portage Central shot 203, Niles shot 215 and Lakeshore rounded out the top five with a 228.
Ella Hoffman of Portage Central earned medalist honors as she finished with a 40.
The Vikings were led by Willow Brawley and Sophie Hover, both of whom shot 52.
Niles at St. Joseph
ST. JOSEPH — The visiting Vikings were shutout in the four singles flights by St. Joseph as the Bears blanked Niles 8-0 in a SMAC West Division match Tuesday.
St. Joseph did not drop a game in winning all four singles flights.
Niles’ Huck Coffee and Erica Lovett had the closest match of the day at No. 3 doubles as they lost to Harsh Gupta and Steven Markert 6-1 and 7-6.
Brandywine at Buchanan
BUCHANAN — The host Bucks won three out of four flights in both singles and doubles to defeat Brandywine 6-2 in BCS Athletic Conference play Monday.
The Bobcats’ lone victories came at No. 1 singles where Jacob Fox defeated Hunter Riggins 7-5 and 6-2, and at No. 3 doubles, where Caleb Byrd and Carson Knapp defeated Travis Harris and CJ Taylor 6-2 and 6-1.
Brandywine at Paw Paw
On Tuesday, Brandywine dropped a 7-1 non-conference decision to host Paw Paw.
Caleb Byrd and Carson Knapp were the lone winners for the Bobcats at No. 3 doubles. They defeated Reese Golisek-Wisser and London Emmons 3-6, 6-2 and 10-8.
