NILES — The Niles Community Schools Board of Education announced the new slate of officers, following a vote on Monday, July 8.

Former board president and longtime board member, Dana Daniels, was unanimously elected as board president. Mark Wortham will take over as vice president, Mark Weber as treasurer and Brent Wright will stay on as secretary.

Daniels succeeds Leigh Jones, who voluntarily removed her name from consideration after serving as last year’s board president.

Daniels has held varying office positions and has been a member of the board since June 2003. He is a graduate of Niles High School and is a lifelong resident of Niles.

He is well equipped to utilize his experience and insight to guide new members through board processes and keep the district moving in a positive direction, Niles staff said.

Prior to Monday’s appointments, Wortham served as treasurer and Weber served as vice president.

“Niles Community Schools is grateful to its board members, who dedicate countless hours to serving our students, our community and our school system,” said Superintendent Dan Applegate. “Their commitment to the district is outstanding, and I thank them for their passion for driving student success.”

The board sets general direction and establishes policy for Niles Community Schools.
