BUCHANAN — The biggest race on the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship circuit marks the halfway point of the season.

The Circle K RedBud National is also a good predictor of who will go on to win the series championship.

For Eli Tomac, he hopes RedBud continues to be the launching point to a championship. He won the 450cc and title on the famed mud before another huge crowd in Buchanan on Saturday.

Tomac, of Cortez, Colorado, went 1-2 in the motos to reach the podium as the 450 champion.

Dylan Ferrandis, of France, was even better as he swept the motos to take home the 250cc RedBud trophy.

Tomac now leads Jason Anderson in the series points by 34 (304-270), Ferrandis came into Buchanan trailing Adam Cianciarulo and Justin Cooper in the 250 standings, but left town in second place trailing the points leader 307-282.

“Overall, it was a really good day for us,” Tomac said. “I had been feeling good all day. It has been a little bit rough the last couple of weeks, but the first moto was a really good way to start the day and get things turned back around. I think that I had some better lines in the first moto, but I was able to move up and get the job done in the second moto.”

Ferrandis also said he was feeling good about the competition before it even got under way.

“I just felt good today, and my bike was really good,” Ferrandis said. “It took some time for me to find a good outdoor feeling, but I think we’ve finally found it. It was just the perfect day and I’m really happy and looking forward to the rest of the championship. It feels good to get the monkey off of my back with a win finally.”

Denver Rigsby, of Cassopolis, and Austin Wagner, of Niles, both came up short in racing their way into the starting lineups of their respective races.

Rigsby finished 24th (out of 40) in the four-lap 450 consolation race won by Matthew Toth. Wagner finished 22nd in the 250 consolation won by Corel Ridel.
