News briefs: Driver ejected from truck in crash

BERTRAND TOWNSHIP — A Dowagiac man and a Buchanan man were involved in an early morning collision Saturday, according to the Berrien County Sheriff’s Department.
The accident occurred when a 2015 Chevy Silverado 2500, driven by a 22-year-old Buchanan man, was driving on the edge of the gore while exiting the U.S. 31 bypass heading south. The vehicle struck two traffic signs and failed to stop at the intersection at U.S. 12 and 31.
The Silverado struck the rear end of a tractor trailer, driven by a 27-year-old Dowagiac man.
Police said the Silverado had heavy front end damage, and the rear axles of the semi-trailer were damaged.
The Buchanan man was ejected from the pickup truck and transported to Memorial Hospital in South Bend. He was reported to be in stable condition.
The driver of the semi-truck was treated at the scene.
The case remains under investigation.
The Berrien County Sheriff’s Department was assisted by Buchanan City Police, Bertrand Fire Department and SMCAS Ambulance.
Police investigating rollover crash
NEWBERG TOWNSHIP — Police were called to the scene of a rollover crash in Newberg Township at 6:28 a.m. Friday, according to the Cass County Sheriff’s Department.
The crash occurred on M-60 near Wood Lake Road, when a vehicle driven by Calvin Brown Jr., 66, of Three Rivers, left the roadway and rolled over.
Brown was transported to Three Rivers Hospital for evaluation. Alcohol and drugs do not appear to have been factors, and Brown was wearing his seatbelt.
Deputies were assisted on scene by Newberg Fire and Ambulance Services.
