NILES — A Niles High School student was selected as the recipient of the Sparkling Ice Flavorful Futures Scholarship.

Colette Maples was surprised by the organization Wednesday afternoon in the Niles High School cafeteria. She received a giant check for $5,000.

Sparkling Ice awards scholarships to students who demonstrate how they are authentic, unique and how they see their future. The program selects five students to receive $5,000 in scholarships each. Award funds may be applied to tuition, fees, books and supplies at an accredited U.S. institution.

Sparkling Ice receives 20,000 applications and applicants from all 50 states.
