CASS COUNTY — Over the weekend, three separate incidents involving meth led to arrests across Cass County.

The first incident took place Friday in Dowagiac when a Dowagiac woman was arrested for disorderly conduct after causing a disturbance in a neighborhood, accord to the Dowagiac Police Department.

At approximately 11:30 p.m. Friday, Dowagiac police were dispatched to the 200 block of Dewey Street for a female subject who was seen walking through yards and looking into windows of the residence.  While responding, officers were advised that the subject was seen lying in several yards and the roadway and taking off her clothes.

Officers located the subject, a 36-year-old Dowagiac woman, and determined that she was under the influence of some type of drug. She told officers that she had recently smoked meth and was affected by this.

Officers spoke with neighbors, who told them that the woman had been walking through their gardens and yards and was walking up to residences and looking in their windows.

Officers arrested the woman for disorderly conduct. She was lodged at the Cass County Jail.  All charges are pending authorization from the Cass County Prosecutor’s Office. The woman’s name is being withheld pending arraignment.

Two more incidents took place Saturday.

A 37-year-old male and 30-year-old female that were residing at the residence were arrested for possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine. In a separate incident Saturday, Dowagiac police arrested a subject for possession of meth while investigating an unattended fire in the city.

At approximately 10:40 p.m. Saturday, a Dowagiac officer observed a large fire in the backyard of a residence in the 100 block of Jay Street.  The officer noted that the fire was unattended as no one was around, which is a violation of city ordinance.

Police located a backpack sitting near the fire, indicating that someone may have been near the fire at some time. The officer attempted to contact someone at the residence and received no answer, though he was then met by a relative of the resident who had access to the residence.

Upon checking inside, officers located a male subject, 33, of Buchanan, asleep on the couch. The male subject did not live at the residence, but was a guest of the resident. When asked about the fire, he said he did start the fire and came inside and fell asleep. He was advised that he needed to put the fire out and went outside to do so.

Upon returning to the fire, the officer noted that the backpack that had been sitting next to the fire was now moved and partially hidden under some construction materials in the yard.  The officer asked the subject about the backpack, and he said that it was his and gave the officer permission to search it. Upon searching the backpack, police located drug paraphernalia as well as meth.

Dowagiac Police arrested the man for possession of meth. He was lodged at the Cass County Jail on the charge.  All charges are pending authorization from the Cass County Prosecutor’s Office.  The name of the subject is withheld pending his arraignment.
