NILES — No one was injured Monday morning when a woman crashed into the Ridge Napa Auto Parts and Paint store.

Authorities responded to the store, located at 323 S. 11th St., at approximately 11 a.m. According to Niles Fire Chief Larry Lamb, the woman had turned onto Cherry Street from S. 11th Street when the crash occurred. Lamb said the cause of the crash has not yet been determined and said it could have been related to a mechanical issue. No one was injured during the incident.

The vehicle went through a garage door on the south side of the building and crashed into a supply of car battery inventory.

“The fortunate thing is she hit an old garage door,” Lamb said. “The good news is she hit an opening that was already there, so we don’t have a structural issue with the roof. She did hit a bunch of batteries and moved them about 4 to 5 [feet]. The chances of those being damaged are pretty high.”

Lamb said firefighters neutralized the battery acid on the floor. He approximated that between 30 and 40 batteries had been struck in the crash. While he did not have a total cost of damage, Lamb estimated that each battery had a $100 value.

A contractor would also be on scene to secure the building, Lamb said.

The Niles Police Department and Niles Fire Department responded to the scene.
