NEWS IN BRIEF: Two injured in Porter Township crash

PORTER TOWNSHIP — Two were injured Saturday in a crash in Porter Township, according to the Cass County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff Richard Behnke reported that at 6:24 p.m. Saturday, his office was called to investigate a personal injury crash that occurred on Sunset Boulevard south of US-12 in Porter Township.

Initial investigation shows John Hendrickson, 55, of Union, was northbound on Sunset Boulevard when he lost control of his vehicle, ran off the road and drove through a detached garage at a residence. Hendrickson had a minor laceration on his forehead with no other injuries.

The homeowner, Victor Dufour, 46, was standing inside the garage when the vehicle traveled through it. As a result of the crash, Dufour was transported to Elkhart General Hospital in Elkhart Indiana for his injuries.

Alcohol and marijuana were suspected to be contributing factors to the crash. The incident is still under investigation.
