Two arrested on drug charges during a traffic stop

DOWAGIAC — Dowagiac Police arrested a subject for possession of meth during a traffic stop on Friday evening.

Direct of Public Safety Steve Grinnewald reported that on at approximately 9:30 p.m. Friday, officers made a traffic stop on a vehicle for an equipment violation. After making contact with the driver, it was determined that the driver had a valid warrant for his arrest out of Van Buren County for possession of meth. Upon confirmation of the warrant, the driver was arrested. 

Officers utilized K9 Tole to search the vehicle who indicated on the presence of drugs inside the vehicle.

When officers searched the vehicle, they located a small box containing a small quantity of meth.  The box belonged to the passenger who was arrested. Upon speaking with the passenger, officers also located a small container with a small quantity of meth on her person as well.

Officers arrested the driver, a 46-year-old male from Dowagiac, on the Van Buren County warrant.  Officers also arrested the passenger, a 32-year-old female from Dowagiac, on charges of possession of meth.

Both subjects were lodged at the Cass County Jail on their respective charges. The meth charges are pending authorization from the Cass County Prosecutor’s Office.

All names are being withheld pending arraignment.
