BENTON HARBOR — Few phrases strike as much terror and dread in high school students like the words “summer school.”

That may have been so in high school, but students at Lake Michigan College know there’s nothing dreadful about taking classes here during the summer months. With registration now open, students can meet their academic goals in a fast and fun environment said officials. Most classes are only 10 weeks long, and the small class sizes make learning personal.

Recent high school graduates who are college-bound can get a head start. Students who attend other colleges or universities who are home for summer can enroll as guest students with credits that transfer and save money in the process.

Whether it is finally getting that Intro to Chemistry requirement fulfilled or working on finishing an LMC degree faster, summer courses are available. The summer term begins May 13 and ends August 22 with classes in seven, 10 and 14-week sessions.

Classes are offered online, as well as on the Benton Harbor, South Haven and Niles campuses. Students can even study on the beach. The Benton Harbor campus is only seven miles from Lake Michigan’s sandy shoreline, South Haven’s is three miles away, and the Niles campus is a half hour away from as many as three beaches.

All prospective students and guests are invited to attend special monthly Saturday tours at LMC’s Benton Harbor campus held at 11 a.m. April 13 and May 18.

Attendees will learn about the college admissions process, financial aid and scholarships, and can tour facilities including the Hanson Technology Center and Beckwith Residence Hall.

Admissions information and tour registration are available at lakemichigancollege.edu/visit. Tour registration is required. To explore the class schedule on all three campuses, learn more about being a guest student or to register, visit lakemichigancollege.edu/summer.
