YMCA Mariners place in state swim meet

NILES — The Niles-Buchanan YMCA Mariners Swim Team finished two state swim meets this week.
Four swimmers attended the Michigan YMCA 8 and Under State Championship meet. Ginger Hendershott, Dryden Janke, Katherine Steinmetz, and Owen Stier. Others who qualified, but could not attend were Ella Penney and Savannah Small.
Hendershott placed fourth in the 100-meter individual medley with a time of 1:45.22, fifth in the 25m backstroke with a time on 22.19, and sixth in the 50m freestyle with a time of 41.71.

Seven swimmers attend the Michigan YMCA 9 and Over State Championship meet this year: Adyson Baker, Alyvia Baker, Bailey Bauer, Ryne Brown, Lorraine Holtgren and Lyla Holtgren.
Those who placed in the event were:
• Alyvia Baker placed sixth in the 50m backstroke with a time of 31.26, ninth in the 100m backstroke with a time of 1:07.16, ninth in the 200-meter freestyle with a time of 2:19.19, and 12th in the 100-meter butterfly with a time of 1:13.59.
• Ryne Brown placed fourth in the 500-meter freestyle with a time of 7:22.24, fourth in the 100-meter backstroke with a time of 1:21.01, and 10th in the 50-meter backstroke with a time of 37.54.
• Lorraine Holtgren placed sixth in the 500-meter freestyle with a time of 6:12.31 and 11th in the 200-meter backstroke with a time of 2:41.23.
