Val Wilson-Hand, 67, of Niles, passed away at her son’s home in Edwardsburg on Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2019, with her loving family by her side

Val was born on March 30, 1951, in New York to the late Daniel C. and Margaret (Noonan) Vanorden.

She graduated from Niles High School. Val held many jobs during her life, the one she enjoyed the most was at Big Lots. On Feb. 14, 2002, she married Don Hand. Val was very creative and artistic. She enjoyed scrapbooking, sewing, woodworking and painting. She would often spend time soaking in God’s great handiwork in nature. Val adored her grandchildren and loved spending time with them.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Danny Vanorden.

Val is survived by her husband, Don of Niles; son, Christopher (Chelsea) Wilson of Edwardsburg; daughter, Michelle (Robert) Forsyth of Fenton, Michigan; stepdaughter, Kayla Jarman-Hand of Niles; eight grandchildren, Jeremiah, Gracelyn, Dane, Evan, Jackson, Joshua, Nyomi and Blaine; a brother, Bill (Suzanne) VanOrden of N. Richland, Texas.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 23, 2019, at the Wesley United Methodist Church, 302 Cedar St. in Niles, with a time of visitation one hour prior to the service.
