Chieftains fall to Vicksburg 48-27

VICKSBURG — Host Vicksburg outscored Dowagiac 40-19 over the final three quarters to pick up an easy 48-27 Wolverine Conference South Division girls basketball victory Friday night.

The Chieftains and Bulldogs were deadlocked 8-8 after one quarter, but Vicksburg poured in 16 second quarter points, while holding Dowagiac to just six points to open up a 24-14 halftime advantage.

Vicksburg increased its advantage to 20 points (38-18) by the end of the third quarter.

Hayden First had nine points to lead Dowagiac, which also got seven points from Allie Conner.

Hannah Vallier was the lone player to reach double figures in the contest as she led the Bulldogs with 12.

Dowagiac is back in action tonight as it hosts Buchanan in a non-conference game scheduled to tip off at 6:30 p.m.
