HOWARD TOWNSHIP — A man was hospitalized after sustaining a head injury in a car crash Tuesday in Howard Township, according to Cass County Sheriff Richard Behnke.

Police responded to the accident at approximately 2:16 p.m. The accident involved two vehicles at the intersection of Detroit and Juniper roads.

Bryan Tegethoff, 49, of Bloomingdale, was driving a box truck for his employer. Police reported that he intended to make a left turn onto Juniper Road from Detroit Road. This section of Detroit Road has two eastbound lanes and two westbound lanes separated by a center median.

Tegethoff made his turn from the right lane.  As he did this, he cut across another eastbound lane and was struck on the driver’s side of his truck by 51-year-old Lisa Sikkema, of Lawrence, according to Behnke.

Tegethoff was transported by SMCAS ambulance to South Bend Memorial Hospital for a laceration to his head. Sikkema was uninjured and was released at the scene.

Alcohol or drugs are not suspected to be a factor in this crash.  The Howard Township Fire Department and Michigan State Police assisted the Sheriff’s Office at the scene.

The incident remains under investigation.
