Walter Douglas Kolmodin, 69, of Dowagiac, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2018, at his home.
A celebration of life service will be at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 28, 2018, at Clark Chapel, 405 Center St., Dowagiac. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Private family burial will take place at a later date in Riverside Cemetery. Doug was born on Aug. 13, 1949, to Walter and Grace (Leech) Kolmodin in Hindsdale, Illinois. He graduated from Indiana Academy in Cicero, Indiana.
On July 18, 1970, he married Kathleen L. Bush of Owosso, Michigan. He worked at FMB Bank in Dowagiac for nearly 20 years. Following his career at the bank, Doug handled car sales for several dealerships in the area until he retired. He was a longtime member of the Elks where he was a Past Exalted Ruler. Doug was also on the Dowagiac School Board and was a top ten JC in the state of Michigan. He enjoyed golfing, taking family vacations and watching football, especially Michigan State and the Chicago Bears. Most of all, Doug cherished his family.
Doug is survived by his wife of 48 years, Kathy; son, Dr. W. Douglas (Linda) Kolmodi, Jr., of Osceola, daughter, Julie Ann (Timothy) Slade, of Ada, Michigan; grandchildren, Zachary and Evan Kolmodin and Drew and Abigail Slade; sister, Debra Sue Kolmodin; brother-in-laws, Joseph Stolz, Dwight Bolejack and Wesley (Cheryl) Bush. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Grace Kolmodin; sister, Gloria Bolejack and sister-in-law, Ann Stolz.
