Letter to the Editor: Michigan in the balance

I remember when the State of Michigan had the best roads and schools in the country.  And after eight years of state government being run by the same political party, the roads are still terrible and our schools have fallen to the bottom half.

In those eight years, we have seen decreased funding for public education, lack of a living wage, the Flint water crisis, the continued water give away to corporations, a major oil spill in the Kalamazoo River and the Emergency Manager Law, even after it was voted down by the people.

For more than 30 years, southwest Michigan has had the same representative in the U.S. Congress and the same party has been elected to state level offices.  Yet, personal rights, voting rights, the right to health care and clean water and the ability to make a living wage diminish by the very people who are asking you to reelect them.

Current leadership is not responsive to the people and only acts to please the party.  Conservative ideology is not good policy.   It’s time for common good leadership.  It’s time to bring a balance back to Michigan, because Michigan is in the balance.
