NILES — The Niles volleyball team wrapped up the home portion of its season with a sweep of Kalamazoo Central Wednesday night.

The Vikings defeated the Maroon Giants 25-16, 25-21 and 25-10 in their SMAC crossover match.

“It was the last night on our home court this season, so it was a big night for our team, especially our two seniors,” said Niles coach Jenny Nate. “We came out determined and ready to finish the match in three sets and to make tonight special for our seniors. I was proud of the hustle, energy and focus that we displayed and we were able to maintain that level of play throughout the match. This team is determined, and they continue to dig deep daily at practice and have big goals for the last part of our season.”

Niles (18-19-2) will compete in the St. Joseph Invitational on Saturday.

Senior Abbie Harpenau finished with 11 kills, three points and five digs, while senior Trystin Schlutt ended the night with three points and five digs.

The Vikings also got eight kills from Taylor Bailey. Nikki Nate had five points, six kills, a block and eight digs.
