Norman D. Colcord, 84, of Niles, passed away after an extended illness in Lakeland Hospital on Sunday, Oct. 7, 2018.

Norman was born on Aug. 5, 1934 in Niles to the late Ora C. and Goldie Mae (Brown) Colcord.

He is preceded in death by his parents as well as his six brothers and five sisters.

Norman is survived by his former wife, Betty Colcord Jewell and their children; Diana (Robin) Herwick of Buchanan, David (Janice) Colcord of Niles and Melody (Mark) Mercado of Niles. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.

Norman honorably served in the U.S. Army where he trained in the building trades.

In his spare time, Norman became an accomplished bowler, winning numerous trophies and awards. He also enjoyed watching the Bears and the Cubs. When he was younger, Norman played the trumpet/coronet and he used to play for the Salvation Army. Norman loved being with his family and hosting family and friends gatherings. He also enjoyed watching his grandchildren and going to softball games they were playing in.

Visitation for Norman will be on Thursday, October 11, 2018 from 4pm to 5pm in Halbritter Wickens Funeral Home 615 E. Main St. Niles. A funeral service will be held at 5pm on Thursday. Burial will take place on Friday, October 12, at 10 a.m. in Silverbrook Cemetery with military honors.
