EAU CLAIRE — Sturgis successfully defended its Wolverine Conference golf championship by shooting 394 at Indian Lake Hills Golf Course on Thursday.

Host Dowagiac finished second with a 413 and were the conference runner-up after the final standings were tallied.

Heidi Hines of Three Rivers shot an 84 to win the tournament medalist honors, while Dowagiac’s Rebecca Franklin was second with a 90 and Greta Whitaker fifth with a 96.

“I am happy,” said Dowagiac coach Bob Turner.  “We could have shot 14 or 15 strokes betters, which is what we got beat by, but we would have still needed some things to happen to leap frog Sturgis. I think our girls are happy where they finished.”
