Buchanan police investigating after man shot in the foot Tuesday

BUCHANAN — A man was shot in the foot Tuesday night in the 100 block of Cayuga Street in Buchanan.

Police responded to the call at about 8:07 p.m. When authorities arrived, they found a 68-year-old male shot in the right foot.

Officers located and arrested a 23-year-old male at the scene, who was later lodged at the Berrien County Jail on four separate charges, including assault with intent less than murder, domestic violence, possession of a firearm while under the influence and felony firearm violation.

The victim was transported by SMCAS to Memorial Hospital in South Bend and was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and later released.

Buchanan Police were assisted on scene by the Berrien County Sheriff’s Department deputies and their evidence technicians, as well as Michigan State Police and SMCAS.

Buchanan Assistant Chief of Police Tim Ganus said the incident remains under investigation and that there was no further information available at this time.
