Barbershop to offer free back-to-school haircuts

NILES — In The Cut Barbershop is offering free back-to-school haircuts at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 27. The sign-in deadline to receive a haircut is 4 p.m. The offer is for free haircuts without designs.

Elkhart woman injured after striking tree with car

MASON TOWNSHIP — A 47-year-old Elkhart woman was transported to the hospital after striking a tree in Mason Township Sunday morning, according to the Cass County Sheriff’s Department.

Deputies were called to the intersection of Grange and Five Points in Mason Township at 12:32 a.m. Sunday after 47-year-old Stephanie Akers, of Elkhart, neglected to observe a stop sign, ran through it, and struck a tree. Officers believe that a medical issue was a factor in the crash.

Akers was transported to Elkhart General Hospital by Porter Ambulance. Assisting agencies were Porter Fire Department and Porter Ambulance.
