I just read Judy Ashley’s letter about the Cass County Courthouse. I applaud the efforts to save the Cass County courthouse. Her letter suggests that making the renovations that will guarantee that the courthouse will be made usable will be accomplished by grant money and no more taxpayer money. Yet I have not heard anyone identify the source of the huge grants that will actually be necessary.

The Bonine House has not received grants that would be adequate to renovate or restore the courthouse. Those who have been on the board of commissioners for many years have a special responsibility to make public how they will lead the expensive efforts to restore the courthouse.

If they know the sources of huge grants, tell us now before we have to vote. If they fail to be specific, I suggest that the voters should select new leadership and reject politicians who promise something for nothing.
