Howard, Brandywine All-Stars win state titles

The Howard Township 9U All-Stars defeated Brandywine 9U to capture the Michigan Cal Ripken state championship on Sunday.

It was Howard’s second consecutive state championship.

Howard defeated Brandywine 9-1 in three innings at L’anse Creuse Little League. The team is now eligible to advance to the Ohio Valley Regional, which will be played in Connersville, Indiana July 31 through Aug. 4.

The All-Stars steamrolled through the tournament field as it defeated Rosedale 10U, host L’anse Creuse and Howard 10U all by more than 10 runs.

The team consists of Brady Fletcher, Tanner rachels, Max rucker, Charlie Thomas, Preston Payne, Layne Roberts, Liam Peasce, Brody Lace, Carson Gessinger, Colin Gowen, Brayden Wiemuth and Vinnie Vane.

Coaches for the all-star team are Andy Lace, Matt Fletcher, Chris Gessinger, Casey Gowen and Jason Wiemuth.

Brandywine 8U All-Stars

The Brandywine 8U All-Stars routed Rosedale 20-5 in the championship game of the Cal Ripken State Tournament Sunday.

In reaching the title game, Brandywine defeated Howard Township 8-0, Alpena 14-1, L’anse Creuse Golf 10-2 and L’anse Creuse Black 16-1.

Brandywine will head to the Ohio Valley Regional Tournament being played in Crown Point Indiana July 19-23.
