LETTER: Bethel Cemetery flood damage

Published 8:08 am Friday, June 22, 2018

First, thanks to all of the people that worked so diligently on repairing the flood damage to Calvin Township’s Bethel Cemetery in Cassopolis, Michigan; namely township officers, sheriff’s department, Road Commission, and Residents who pitched in physically, supplying food, etc. You all served an important role and your hard work goes far from unnoticed.

Next, thanks to Bill Vaughn for his expertise is excavating; cemetery upkeep/maintenance; and for using his personal equipment to restore Bethel Cemetery to its impeccable condition. As Calvin Township Sexton he takes great pride in all of the cemeteries and is too humble to expect special praise.

Everyone (too numerous to name for fear of missing someone — you know who you are) that worked day in and day out to complete the project in three days deserves a round of applause. The job was never easy and incredibly important. We will always be grateful for all that was done.

Disasters don’t only happen during regular business hours. They definitely don’t keep bankers’ hours. They certainly don’t care about weekends or holidays. Therefore, special thanks to all that has loved ones that might have been affected for knowing and understanding this.

For being supportive and understanding through the restoration process and everything else that comes with a disaster response and recovery. We all appreciate it and truly wish to thank you. It’s easy to set back and say what “should have”, “could have”, and “would have” been done to prevent this from happening, but fortunately criticism was kept to a minimum.

Just goes to show all of us that “Mother Nature” is a force to be reckoned with.

Charlene Vaughn
