School millages pass

CASS COUNTY — A number of millages that fund schools in Cass County have passed.

Tuesday, the renewal of three operating millages for public schools in Cass County public schools were up for a vote. The millages allow the school districts to continue to levy the statutory rate of not to exceed 18 mills on all property, except principal residences and other properties exempted by law. The millages will continue to fund the schools from

The election results are as follows:

• Cassopolis Public Schools — The millage proposal has been renewed for a five-year period between 2019 and 2023. If levied in 2019, the schools will receive approximately $4,063,479. The millage passed by a vote of 141 to 44.

• Dowagiac Union Schools — The millage proposal has been renewed for a five-year period between 2019 and 2023. If levied in 2019, the schools will receive approximately $5,048,573. This amount accounts for 23 percent of Dowagiac Union Schools’ operating budget. The millage passed by a vote of 598 to 256.

• Edwardsburg Public Schools — The millage proposal has been renewed for 2018. If levied in 2018, the schools will receive $2,089,087. The millage passed by a vote of 125 to 42.
