THREE OAKS — Acclaimed jazz vocalist Erin McDougald will celebrate the release of her album “Outside the Soiree” at her annual birthday concert at 8 p.m. Friday, March 16, at The Acorn Theater, 107 Generation Drive, Three Oaks.

McDougald’s new album seeks to exemplify the concept of thinking and singing outside the box, according to McDougalds representation.

Fans describe McDougald as one of the “finest and freest voices today in jazz,” according to Howard Mandel in “DownBeat Magazine.”

“Outside the Soiree,” is McDougald’s fourth studio recording and seeks to be a heartfelt ode to all the outsiders and those who are oppressed.

Miles High Records produced the album, which will be available for purchase starting March 16. The album is comprised of McDougald’s original compositions. Listeners who got a sneak preview of the album described the music as a thematic narrative explored through jazz.

During her performance at Three Oaks, McDougald will be joined by guitarist and pianist Rob Block, bassist Cliff Schmitt, drummer Rodney Green, percussionists Mark Sherman and Chembo Corniel, and saxophonist Dan Block.

McDougald has appeared and or recorded with members of the elite jazz scene that include Nicholas Payton, Paul Wertico, Ira Sullivan, Carlos Henriquez, Ben Wolfe, Von Freeman, Howard Levy, Roy Hargrove and many others.

Concert tickets are $25. For a copy of McDougald’s cd and a concert ticket the cost is $35. For info call 269-756-3879 or visit: acorntheater.org/event/4a56aca0e5059d7f482de7342413dbca.
