EDWARDSBURG — It may have taken a bit longer than anticipated last Thursday night, but Edwardsburg junior Kaitlyn Zarycki reached a milestone in the Eddies’ win over Otsego.

While Edwardsburg was playing for its second straight Wolverine Conference title, Zarycki was trying to become the second Edwardsburg player in three years to surpass 1,000 career points.

It took until early in the forth quarter to finally get the final two points she needed, but it was worth the wait according to the junior point guard.

While Zarycki said she kind of knew where she stood in terms of points needed to break the barrier, she was more concered with the Eddies winning back-to-back league championships.

“I just kept playing,” she said. “I was not really worried about it. I just wanted to win.”

Zarycki said that now that she has surpassed the milestone, it is time to focus on helping her team win a district championship.

“It is time to move on,” she said.

Edwardsburg coach Jon Poduba said he enjoyed seeing his standout finally surpass the plateau.

“It was one of those things where you wanted to sit back, grab some popcorn and a pop and just watch her,” he said. “The nice thing about her is the game just comes to her. She is an unselfish player and she gets her teammates involved, which gets her going.
