St. Joseph man dies in car versus pedestrian accident

ST. JOSEPH — A 21-year-old St. Joseph resident was pronounced dead at the scene of a car versus pedestrian accident that took place Jan. 19.

The crash occurred at 7:58 p.m. at 245 W. Napier when a westbound vehicle driven by 64-year-old Denelle Hunt was reported to have struck Brian Joseph Elftmann, who had been walking in the roadway, police said.

The St. Joseph Township Police Department were dispatched to the area. Officers pronounced the 21-year-old victim as dead at the scene. 

The accident remains under investigation.

St. Joseph Township Police were assisted by the St. Joseph Department of Public Safety, Medic One, Berrien County Sheriff’s Department Road Patrol and Accident Investigation Team and the St. Joseph Township Fire Department.
