NILES TOWNSHIP — Brandywine girls from kindergarten to sixth grade will soon have the chance to spend some quality time on the dance floor with their father figures for the annual My Guy and Me dance.

The dance will be hosted by the Partnership for Children and will take place from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 20 at Brandywine High School, 1700 Bell Road. Brandywine students are invited to attend and bring an uncle, grandfather, father, brother or significant father figure in their life.

Those who participate can listen to a live DJ. In addition to hitting the dance floor, fathers and daughters can enjoy treats from a sweets table, win donated raffle items and get their photos taken.

Money raised from the raffle goes to the Partnership for Children and helps to fund other events that the parent and teacher led organization puts on throughout the year.

Karie Reske, the president for the Partnership for Children, said the highlight of the event is seeing daughters and fathers bond and make memories. Reske’s own daughter, Maddie, 9, participates each year and dances with her dad or grandpa.

A yearly tradition going back more than 10 years, the dance is highly anticipated among students.

“They look forward to it every year,” Reske said. “It is one of our biggest events.”

Reske said she enjoys devising a new theme for the event and helping to decorate the dance floor. This year’s theme is boots and bling and dancers are invited to dress in cowboy boots and cowboy hats and add some glamour to the attire with some bling.

“The theme, it just sounded fun,” Reske said. “We were trying to get away from the royal ball stuff.”

Seeing the students get excited about the dance and dress their best is heartwarming, Reske said.

“They go all out for it,” Reske said. “They buy fancy dresses and get tiaras and dress up.”

The dance has become a tradition for many families, drawing about 300 people to attend on average. This year, Reske expects the same crowd.

“It is an overall good time,” Reske said. “It’s an experience. Once they come one time, they will probably come back.”

Reske thanked the more than dozen volunteers who also contribute to the event. She said many of the volunteers are moms, who help out to see the dance in action.

The dance costs $7 per person and will help to defray costs. The remaining amount raised will also support the Partnership for Children.
