TUMON, GUAM  — An Edwardsburg native has received magic’s highest honor.

Illusionists Chris, originally of Lainsburg, Michigan, and Ryan, originally of Edwardsburg, Zubrick, are currently headlining the sensational “ZUBRICK” show at the SandCastle Dinner Theatre on the island of Guam. The illusionist duo received the magic industry’s most prestigious honor Thursday, Jan, 4, when they were presented with a Merlin Award for “Best Family Magic Show” by the International Magicians Society.

Society Chairman and CEO Tony Hassini traveled to Guam to make the presentation at the SandCastle.

“Through dedication and incredible talent, Chris and Ryan have made the ZUBRICK brand the gold standard in magic and family entertainment,” Hassini said. “They are very deserving of the industry’s top honor.”

“The ‘ZUBRICK’ show has elevated quality entertainment to levels never before seen on Guam,” said Mark Baldyga, Chairman and CEO of Baldyga Group, which operates the SandCastle. “I am delighted Chris and Ryan are being recognized at the highest levels of their craft.”

The Merlin Award is the most prestigious honor bestowed by the magic community and is based on talent, showmanship, originality, skill and the ability to entertain under any conditions.  Likened to the “Oscar of Magic,” previous recipients include Criss Angel, Siegfried & Roy, Penn & Teller, Doug Henning and David Copperfield.

“We are passionate about creating a fantastic, one-of-a-kind experience for the entire family,” Chris and Ryan Zubrick said in a statement. “Our mission is to amaze and entertain people of all ages and create wonderful memories families will share forever.

“We are grateful to the International Magicians Society and very proud to bring this international recognition to Guam,” the statement continued. “Words can’t express our deepest appreciation for our supporters here, especially our audiences, Mark Baldyga and everyone at the SandCastle.”

With intimate sleight-of-hand, elaborate stage production featuring sequined showgirls and acrobatics, non-stop showmanship and amazing feats that include on-stage appearances by their three Bengal tigers, Chris and Ryan thrill audiences of all ages with their unique blend of artistry and style, the duo said.

“I love watching audience faces during the show,” said SandCastle General Manager Michael Storm. “From anticipation to dramatic tension, from laughter to amazement, ‘ZUBRICK’ is a memorable family experience for our guests.”

Chris and Ryan are consummate professionals, respected for their artistry and stage presence,” said SandCastle Director of Entertainment Chuck McCarroll.  “We are so fortunate to have them.  Everyone living on or visiting Guam should take advantage of the opportunity to see the show. There is nothing like it anywhere else in the world.”
