Conservation club hosting annual squirrel hunt

DOWAGIAC — Local parents and children wanting to help cure a case of “cabin fever” are invited out to the Dowagiac Conservation Club later this month.

The club will host its fifth annual Hunter’s Rendezvous Squirrel Hunt beginning at 7:45 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 28, with a mandatory meeting of all participants at the Dowagiac Conservation Club.

Breakfast will be available at 7 a.m. for $7, while chili and hot dogs will be served at noon for $5.

Weigh-in will be at the Dowagiac Conservation Club at 4 p.m. sharp. Late arrivals will be disqualified.

Statewide hunting with all applicable Michigan hunting rules and regulations will be followed.

This is a rimfire rifle or hand gun event. No shotguns are allowed, except for youths 14 and under. No dogs are allowed.

This is a two-person team event, with an entry fee of $20 per team. A 10- squirrel limit total weight determines winners.

Payback in cash and prizes will be based on the number of entries.

To sign up for this event contact Rich Atkinson at (269) 424-5186, or sign up and learn more about it at the Hunter’s Rendezvous which will be Saturday, Jan. 27, at the Dowagiac Conservation Club, located just north of Dowagiac on M-51 North.
