NILES — Hope Grows has continued to fundraise throughout the winter season with the help of three community partners: Lakeland Health Auxiliary, Hope Community Church, and Niles High School. All three partners sponsored events with funds being donated back to Hope Grows — an annual fundraiser that provides a continuum of care for cancer patients in Berrien County.

The Lakeland Health Auxiliary began the Midge Tyler Tree of Love more than 20 years ago as a way for community members to remember their loved ones by illuminating a light on the tree with their tax-deductible donation of $5 or more. The annual lighting of the tree took place on Dec. 6.

Over the years, the auxiliary has donated the proceeds to various needs of the hospital. This year’s donations will go to Hope Grows.

“To date, pledges and contributions exceed $4,000,” said Deb Touhey, Lakeland Auxiliary Advisor. “We are happy that Hope Grows will be able to help so many patients fighting cancer with this gift.”

Additionally, Hope Community Church hosted its seventh annual Cookies and Crafts for a Cure event. Cookies and crafts were available for purchase. Additionally, Santa made a visit. The proceeds from the event went back to fund Hope Grows.

Niles High School hosted its annual Pink Week, where they sold T-shirts, glow sticks, beads, sold a raffle, sought donations from families and friends, and so much more. NHS students were generous enough to donate proceeds back to Hope Grows.

“Our students, our school, and our community came together to make an impact on our neighbors and friends,” said Karissa Young, NHS teacher. “I could not be more proud to be a Niles Viking!”

Through the annual Hope Grows fundraiser, 100 percent of the proceeds go back to the community.
