MILTON TOWNSHIP — Three people were injured in a collision in Milton Township on Christmas Eve, according to the Cass County Sheriff’s Office.

Police were called to the scene at U.S. 12 and Fir Road in Milton Township at 8:30 p.m. Sunday.

Rayvon Collins, 28, of Niles, was westbound on U.S. 12 when he lost control of his vehicle and crossed the center lane and hit another car head on. A 22-year-old Elkhart resident who was riding with Collins received minor injuries from the crash and was transported to Memorial Hospital.

Collins’ 7-month and 2-year-old children were also in the vehicle, but were uninjured.

Vanessa Vela, 24, of Elkhart, was driving east on U.S. 12 when her vehicle collided with Collins’. Vela was not injured, but her father, Bernardino Vela, 50, was transported to Elkhart General for chest pains.

Vanessa Vela’s 10-month-old child sustained minor injuries and was also transported to Elkhart General Hospital.

Seatbelts were worn and intoxicants were not a factor in the crash, which is believed to be a result of winter weather.

Edwardsburg Fire Department and Southwestern Michigan Community Ambulance Service assisted with the accident.
