LANSING — Gov. Rick Snyder announced Tuesday the appointment of John Williams of Hart, as well as the reappointments of Victor Shank of Dowagiac, Tom Oomen of Hart, Nick Oomen of Hart, and Tracey Butler of Shelby to the Michigan Asparagus Marketing Advisory Board, which develops and implements asparagus marketing programs.

“I thank this group of individuals for their commitment to promoting Michigan’s agriculture industry,” Snyder said.

Members serve three-year terms expiring Nov. 13, 2020. Their appointments are subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.

Snyder also made several other appointments to state board Tuesday, including Lawrence Schloegl, of Laingsburg, to the Public Safety Communications Interoperability Board.

The board oversees Michigan’s Public Safety Communications System, a 800/700 MHz radio system and telecommunications network that also provides public safety specific applications integrated into the network.

The MPSCS provides statewide interoperability in digital clarity to its members in all 83 counties for local, state, federal, tribal and private partners. It also adopts procedures governing the organization and operations of Michigan’s Public Safety Communications System. The Board also is responsible for advising the governor on all interoperability aspects of current and future technology in the state to ensure the public safety community is well prepared today and in the future with the emergency communications ecosystem.

“Col. Schlogel has many years of experience as a first responder and I am confident that experience will be a great asset to help ensure interoperability in Michigan’s public safety communications systems,” Snyder said.

Schloegl will serve the remainder of a four-year term expiring April 30, 2020.

Snyder also announced the appointment of John Walters, of Vanderbilt, to the Michigan Natural Resources Commission. Vicki Pontz, of Delta Township, was appointed chair of the commission.

The NRC is a seven-member body that works with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources to conserve, protect, and manage the state’s natural and cultural resources for the use and enjoyment of current and future generations. No more than four members may be from the same political party.

“I thank John for his commitment to protecting Michigan’s natural resources,” Snyder said.

Walters will serve a four-year term to expire Dec. 31, 2021. Pontz will serve as chair for a term expiring at the pleasure of the Governor. Appointments are subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
