What’s happening at the Niles District Library?

NILES — The Niles District Library seeks to build a community of lifelong learners who want to make Niles their lifelong home. A library card is not required to participate in any programs. All programs are free.

In observance of the Christmas holiday, the Niles District Library will be closed Friday, Dec. 22, Saturday, Dec. 23 and Monday, Dec. 25.

Tuesday, Dec. 19

• 8:30 to 10 a.m. — Drip-in Book Club

The community is invited to join the library members downtown at Top Heavy Coffee, 205 E. Main Street, for coffee and discussion. At the Drip-in Book Club, participants discuss a different genre each month. This month will feature fantasy books. 

• 10:30 a.m. – Passport Pals

The community is invited for a special story time tour of the world. Each week, there will be books, songs, a craft, and other super surprises relating to the special country of the month.

• 5:30 to 8 p.m. — Tabletop RPG Night

Fiction for Foodies, the tastiest book club you’ll ever join, meets the second Tuesday of each month. The best part of this book club is that it is a potluck. Read, cook, eat, and discuss. Books for each month can be picked up at the Information Desk.

• 6 to 7 p.m. — Chips and Chapters

Every Tuesday, Ms. Tara will read aloud from a chapter book, while participants eat chips and follow along. This is fun for all ages.

• 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. — Lego Building Challenge

A bucket of Legos will be provided and the community is invited to use their creativity to make something. This event will take place in Youth Services.

Wednesday, Dec. 20

• Multiple times — Storytime day

Squealers (birth-18 months) at 9:30 a.m., squeakers (18 months-3 years) at 10 a.m., squigglers (18 months-5 years) at 10:30 a.m., story time (children ages 3+) at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.

• 1 to 4 p.m. — Michigan Works/ Kinexus

Talent Development Specialists can help people register for unemployment, evaluate their strengths and skills, edit or help update resumes, sharpen interview skills and more. 

• 4 to 7 p.m. — Coupon Exchange

The community is invited to meet in Youth Services to trade coupons. This program is open to teens and adults.

• 6:30 to 8 p.m. — Readers Circle Book Group

Readers Circle members have discussions about books from a wide variety of genres. This is recommended for serious book lovers and new members are welcome. Books are available at the Information Desk.

• 6:30 to 8 p.m. — Card Crafting

The community is invited to meet in Youth Services area in front of Patti’s Place for festive card making craft. Supplies will be provided, but please register in advance by calling (269) 683-8545, ext. 112, emailing CommunityEngagement@nileslibrary.com, or stop by the information desk at the library. This program is open to teens and adults, activities for children will be available by request.

• 7 to 8 p.m. — CDA Niles

Chemically Dependent Anonymous is a 12-step fellowship for anyone seeking freedom from drug and alcohol addiction. CDA Niles has a room reserved from 7 to 8 p.m. at the library every Monday and Wednesday. For more information visit cdaweb.org.

Thursday, Dec. 21

• 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. — The Connection

As Berrien County’s Housing Resource Center, The Connection provides a centralized intake that works together with the consumer to rapidly re-house those who are homeless.  Housing Resource Specialists will be at the library from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursdays. • 10 to 11:30 a.m.- Triple P: Positive Parenting Program

This program is for parents and caretakers who wish to learn a variety of parenting skills that will promote their child’s development and potential.

• 10:30 and 1:30 p.m. – Storytime

Storytime features three books, a color song, and music and movement. The program will end with a hand stamp, coloring sheet and a craft.

• 1 to 4:30 p.m. – Mahjong

Volunteers are available to teach newbies how to play.  Other board games are also available.

• 6 to 7:30 p.m. — Teen Time

Teens can hang out 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday evenings, for various activities. There will be games, snacks, books, and a great place to study in the Teen Department.

Friday, Dec. 22 — The Niles District Library is closed.

Saturday, Dec. 23 — The Niles District Library is closed.
