PORTER TOWNSHIP — A man was killed in a car accident Tuesday in Porter Township, according to the Cass County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded to a roll-over crash at 4:44 a.m. that morning at Mason Street and Union Road. Upon arrival, deputies found that the driver, Daniel Staley, 48, of Elkhart, Indiana, was deceased.

Initial investigation shows that Staley lost control of his vehicle due to icy roads, which caused him to run off the roadway and overturn. Staley was ejected from his vehicle and died from his injuries. Staley was not wearing a seatbelt.

Deputies have determined that no intoxicants played a role in the accident, though the case remains under investigation
