Edwardsburg High School student hospitalized following school bus crash

EDWARDSBURG — An Edwardsburg High School student was transported to the hospital after her vehicle collided with a school bus Wednesday afternoon, according to the Edwardsburg/Ontwa Township Police Department.

The Edwardsburg/Ontwa Township Police Department responded to a crash involving a vehicle and an Edwardsburg school bus at 4:34 p.m. Wednesday.

The crash took place at the intersection of Elkhart Road and Raymon Avenue. Police reported that Ella Merril, 16, of Edwardsburg, was driving south on Elkhart Road when she lost control of her vehicle due to snow covered roads, and was hit by a school bus that was northbound.

Merrill was transported to Elkhart General Hospital by Edwardsburg Ambulance.

The driver of the school bus, 52-year-old Tammy Stanley, of Cassopolis, was not injured. The seven children who were on the bus were not injured.

Police have determined that seatbelts were worn by both drivers. The case remains under investigation.
