LETTER: Niles barking up wrong tree with dog park

Published 8:23 am Wednesday, December 6, 2017

Perhaps I am the only person in town that feels our riverfront property is among one of our most valuable assets.

Another may be the Fort St. Joseph site.

Suppose one day it was decided to reconstruct the fort (think Mackinac Island) and then invite the Potawatomi Tribe to establish an olden day village outside the fort along the riverfront, say north of the French’s dam near the south side of our newly built fort.

This area then becomes a re-enactor’s dream: with a gift shop, restaurant inside the fort, cannons fired hourly over the river, tribal dances, feasts.

Oh wait, we made a dog park, not at 13th and Lake streets or some other less potentially valuable site but right on our riverfront.

I sure do appreciate my thoughtful city representatives. May they continue to not think things through.
