LANSING — This week First Lady Sue Snyder announced the first round of Michigan colleges and universities who were selected to receive up to $600,000 to implement innovative and strategic sexual assault prevention programs on campus. The first lady also announced a second targeted round of grants to fund specific innovative bystander intervention programs.

“Once again Michigan’s colleges and universities have stepped up and developed innovative sexual assault awareness and prevention programs to be implemented on our state’s campuses,” said Sue Snyder. “I’m excited that this year we will be offering a second round of grants to fund specific programs and tools that are nationally recognized as effective awareness and prevention strategies. I hope every college, community college and university in our state will apply to receive funding for these resources that will help us continue to make Michigan’s campuses safer.”

Gov. Rick Snyder recommended and the Michigan Legislature appropriated funds from the FY 2018 General Fund to support the Campus Sexual Assault Grant Program (CSAGP). This year, 13 community colleges and universities will receive $381,929 in state grant funds, with a second targeted round of grants to follow. Universities, colleges and community colleges receiving full or partial funding from the 2017 CSAGP include:

• Grand Valley State University ($39,472)

• Kalamazoo College ($41,800)

• Lake Superior State University ($29,355)

• Lawrence Technological University ($6,000)

• Michigan State University ($39,216)

• Michigan Technological University ($11,920)

• Mott Community College ($14,333)

• Northern Michigan University ($19,321)

• University of Michigan ($17,597)

• University of Michigan – Flint ($43,700)

• Western Michigan University ($83,342)

Programs selected for inclusion are based in sound theory and research, use current and innovative strategies for violence prevention, and are available for implementation on campuses across the country. The deadline for targeted applications is noon Thursday, Jan. 18, 2018.
