Photo gallery: customers flock to downtown for Small Business Saturday

Whether it was the beautiful sunny weather or the great deals and discounts inside the stores, the streets of downtown were packed with eager customers during Small Business Saturday. The event, created by American Express in 2010, takes place the Saturday after Thanksgiving, and is meant to encourage people to patronize local brick and mortar shops, in contrast to the focus on big-box stores on Black Friday. Among the popular stops in Dowagiac were pottery and art store Mud-Luscious (image 2), Christmas-themed gift shop Deck the Halls (images 3 and 4), women’s apparel and accessories store The Marshall Shoppe (image 5), boutique Rosy Tomorrows (image 6), and the dog bath and gift shop Bow Wow Bakery & Bath (images 7 and 8).
