During Monday night’s Niles Community Schools board meeting, representatives from American Electric Power awarded two Ballard Elementary School students, fourth-grader Aiden Lewald and second-grader Alissa Conn, 7. The students were selected as the winners of a poster contest, which asked contestants to illustrate “What Nuclear Power Means to Me.” Students were awarded $100 gift cards for Amazon.

Matt Lloyd, the vice president of engineering at the Donald C. Cook Nuclear Plant in Bridgman congratulated
the students.

“We appreciate Niles school district for participating in our art contest,” Lloyd said.

Lloyd also thanked Women in Nuclear for helping to sponsor the event.

The DC Cook Nuclear Plant is owned by AEP and produces 2,000 megawatts of electricity to surrounding communities.
