DOWAGIAC — Lunch was on the house — or school, rather — for Dowagiac’s elderly Thursday afternoon, as Union High School hosted its semiannual Senior Citizen Luncheon in the building’s library. Students with Andy Kruger’s and Matt MacQuillan’s classrooms served a free lunch to local senior citizens that day. On the menu was a cheesy broccoli and chicken soup, served inside a bread bowl, along with a brownie for dessert. While guests enjoyed their soup, members of the school choir, led by instructor Mary Alice Korth, performed. Students handled nearly all the responsibilities for the lunch, including serving meals to guests and helping to cook the food, with the help of the kitchen staff.
