What’s happening at the Niles District Library?

The Niles District Library seeks to build a community of lifelong learners who want to make Niles their lifelong home. A library card is not required to participate in any programs. All programs are free.

Thanksgiving closure:

The Thanksgiving holiday will impact the Niles District Library’s hours. On Wednesday, the library will be open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The library will be closed Thursday, Nov. 23. Normal hours will resume on Friday. 

Monday, Nov. 20

• 6 to 7 p.m. — Tween Game Night

The library is starting a new game night just for tweens aged 9 to 12. There will be Xbox 360 (or Xbox One) and board games available. As well as art and crafts supplies. Tweens are invitied to join in a game night. Snacks will be provided.

• 7 to 8 p.m. — CDA Niles

Chemically Dependent Anonymous is a 12-step fellowship for anyone seeking freedom from drug and alcohol addiction. CDA Niles has a room reserved at the library from 7 to 8 p.m. every Monday and Wednesday. For more information please visit cdaweb.org/

Tuesday, Nov. 21

• 8 to 9:30 a.m. — Drip-In

Book Club

This book club is for those searching for the next great read. Each month, a different genre of literature is chosen and each book club member reads a different book in that genre. At the meetings, the book club will discuss recommendations for what to read next. This is a drop-in book club so those interested can stay as long as they want. This month’s genre is mystery.

• 10 a.m. to noon – Special Edition: Movie Day

This month’s feature is the 2016 hit, Sing.  Special Edition is a series of programs designed to be particularly accessible and engaging for adults and children with special needs. Anyone is welcome to attend.

• 10:30 a.m. — Passport Pals

Each Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. there will be a story time tour of the world. Each week, the library will have books, songs, a craft and other surprises relating to the country of the month.

• 4 to 5:30 p.m. — NDL

Board Meeting

• 5:30 to 8 p.m. — Tabletop

RPG Night

The public is invited to attend an evening of games, including Dungeons and Dragons, Shadowrun, and other tabletop role-playing games. 

• 6 to 7 p.m. — Chips and

Chapters

This activity includes a read aloud story time. Every Tuesday, Tara will read aloud from a chapter book, while readers eat chips and follow along. This is fun for all ages.

• 6 to 7:30 p.m. — Women’s

12-Step Meeting

This group is for women searching for guidance through the 12 steps of AA.  All are welcome to join this drop-ins group.

• 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. — Lego

Building Challenge

The public is invited to get creative with Legos.

• 6:30 to 8 p.m. — Creative

Cooking: Slow Cooker Sides

This class aims to provide participants with the skills to create easy and delicious side dishes in the slow cooker. These recipes will be ideal for potlucks and holiday get-togethers. To pre-register call (269) 683-8545, ext. 112 or email CommunityEngagement@nileslibrary.net.

Squealers (birth-18 months) at 9:30 a.m., squeakers (18 months-3 years) at 10 a.m., squigglers (18 months-5 years) at 10:30 a.m., story time (children ages 3+) at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.

Friday Extravaganza

Teens are invited to the Teen Area for a Black Friday Extravaganza to comb through the ads and develop resources for an ideal Black Friday shopping trip.

1 to 4 p.m. — Michigan

Works/ Kinexus

Talent Development Specialists can help those in need register for unemployment, evaluate their career strengths and skills, edit or help update their resume, sharpen their interview skills and more.

Meeting

TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) is a nonprofit, noncommercial weight-loss support group and wellness education organization. TOPS offers tools and programs for healthy living and weight management, with the opportunity for group fellowship and recognition. Established in 1948 to champion weight-loss support and success, TOPS has helped millions of people live healthier lives. New members are welcome.

• 3 to 5 p.m. — Twisted Stitches

Participants are invited to bring a cup of coffee or tea and chat while they work on a yarn or sewing project. Rookies are welcome. The teacher and a few loaner tools will be available to help get beginners started.

Saturday, Nov. 25

• Noon to 4 p.m. — Small

Business Saturday Craft Fair

The library will be participating in Small Business Saturday. There will be locally made crafts available.  Those interested in having a table at the craft fair, call (269) 683-8545, ext. 112 or email CommunityEngagement@nileslibrary.net
