The Dowagiac Area History Museum’s 2017 Fall Lecture Series continues at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday with author Chriss Lyon presenting “Fred Burke: The Most Wanted Man in America in 1929.”

In 1929, Fred Burke helped perpetrate the notorious St. Valentine’s Day Massacre in Chicago on behalf of gangster Al Capone. After the murders, he traveled to southwest Michigan where he had a run-in with a St. Joseph police officer. He was later captured and convicted in southwest Michigan.

Chriss Lyon is the author of “A Killing in Capone’s Playground: The True Story of the Hunt For the Most Dangerous Man Alive.” She has done extensive research on Fred Burke’s involvement with the St. Valentine’s Day Massacre and Burke’s role in it and subsequent capture.

She will have copies of her book for sale and a book signing will follow the program.

Artist Rick Herter and Museum Director Steve Arseneau will close out the fall lecture series on Nov. 21 with “Iven Gets Ivan: The Making of a Kincheloe Painting.”

The programs are free to museum members and $5 for non-members. Children under 18 are admitted free. Membership will be available at the museum.

The museum is at the corner of Division and West Railroad streets. For more information, call the museum at (269) 783-2560 or visit dowagiacmuseum.info.
