Be sure to thank your spiritual leader this week

Once a year since 1985, Pastoral Care Week has been celebrated.

It began as a national effort, and over the years now spreads around the globe. This year, the dates for celebration are Oct. 22 through Oct. 28.

The purpose for my letter is to thank the many local clergy and other spiritual care providers, professionals, volunteers, and the untitled spiritual care givers who live next door to you and me. I would like to honor those leaders in mission as they provide support for the spiritual concerns for the entire community.

This year’s theme is “Hospitality: Cultivating Inclusion,” and it addresses one’s ability to navigate through or recover from life most challenging moments spiritually, as our people adapt to and realign their lives following such moments.

I wish to celebrate the contributions of spiritual caregivers wherever they may serve. Our spiritual care leaders exist to bring life and health to our communities and  listen carefully to all voices in an effort to promote the growth of the human spirit.

I encourage all to celebrate the contributions of our spiritual caregivers, be it your pastor, spiritual leader, elder or chaplain. I want to say a personal “thank you” to each one, and encourage each of your readers to do the same.
