A week ago Monday, customers walking up to a Chemical Bank location in Cass or Berrien Counties would have found the doors locked and the lights off, due to employees spending the day out of the office and in the community.

On Monday, Oct. 9, Chemical Bank offices in Michigan, Ohio and Indiana were closed, allowing Bank employees to volunteer in their communities on a variety of different projects. Nearly 3,000 Chemical Bankers partnered with local organizations to work on over 300 projects ranging from helping to beautify city parks and schools, to spending time at Senior Centers, to leading financial lessons in classrooms, in addition to a variety of many other activities.

Todd Obren, Community President of Chemical Bank, said he is pleased to announce Chemical Bank’s successful participation in the Bank’s fifth annual Chemical Bank Cares Day event.

“Chemical Bank Cares Day was a success again this year. It provided us with the opportunity to be engaged in the communities where we live, work and play,” Obren said. “The response to this initiative from our customers, community partners and employees has been overwhelming and we are grateful for a successful day of giving back to the communities we serve.”

The goal of Chemical Bank Cares Day is to reinforce Chemical Bank’s commitment to its communities and the important role that our financial institution plays in communities across its three-state footprint. Chemical Bank is dedicated to improving the quality of life in the communities it serves and our Cares Day Initiative is an important way to demonstrate that commitment.

In Niles and the surrounding areas, Chemical Bankers partnered with local organizations and agencies such as the Fernwood Botanical Gardens and the Edwardsburg Food Pantry, among others.

Project examples included landscaping work and indoor cleaning at the new location for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Berrien and Cass Counties, as well as building wheel chair ramps for the elderly and disabled with the Cass County Council on Aging.

In Goshen, employees worked on landscaping and weeding for the City Parks and in Elkhart, employees worked on save the dates for the Reason Enough to Act fundraiser. These are just a few of the many community activities that Chemical Bankers worked on across their footprint on this day.
