Published 8:00 am Friday, October 13, 2017

The unique sights, sounds and smells of the autumn season in Dowagiac returns to downtown Saturday.

The Greater Dowagiac Chamber of Commerce will host its annual fall festival, Under the Harvest Moon, with events and activities taking place throughout Front and Commercial streets from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

People will have a chance to check out the products from more than 50 local vendors setting up booths along Front Street, selling everything from food and produce to artwork and handmade crafts, through the festival’s autumn marketplace. Joining the vendors on Front Street will be an assortment of vintage tractors from the Michiana Two-Cylinder Club, as well as modern equipment from Dowagiac’s Ausra Equipment, which will be parked downtown for people to check out.

There will be plenty of family-friendly activities during the festival as well, including children’s crafts at the Dowagiac District Library and Who kNew? Consignment, a petting farm with animals from Dowagiac’s Hidden Acres, a pumpkin decorating workshop hosted by MKSOD and horse drawn wagon rides throughout downtown. Even pets will have a chance to join in the fun, as Dowagiac’s Bow Wow Bakery & Bath hosts its annual Parade of Halloween Hounds costume contest at 11 a.m.

The city will also dedicate the new Orphan Trail mural, created over the summer by Cassopolis’ Ruth Andrews and a team of volunteers on Pennsylvania Avenue., at 1 p.m. during the festival.
