NILES — The Michiana Metro Lighthouse Chorus will host its annual Food Bank Fundraiser when it will present “A Helping Hand of Harmony” at 6:59 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11, at the Wesley United Methodist Church, 302 Cedar St., Niles.

The program will include a variety of music that appeals to all ages, with several patriotic pieces in honor of Veterans Day. Attendees are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item to donate to the evening’s food drive.

The Lighthouse Chorus is a group of men that gathers weekly to share their love of singing. The a cappella group performs primarily in the four-part harmony of the barbershop style, and the program includes everything from jazz to doo wop. Chorus President Era Snyder said helping others is an important part of the group’s mission.

“Many of our chorus performances center on giving back to our communities through fundraisers like this,” Snyder said. “Last year we raised over $5,000 for area food banks, and we hope to top that number this year.”

The chorus has over two dozen members who come from a variety of backgrounds. They also come from multiple counties throughout the area, including Berrien and Cass counties in Michigan and St. Joseph and LaPorte counties in Indiana. Some members have more than 50 years of Barbershop experience and others have less than a year. All the members said they share one thing—the joy of singing.

The Lighthouse Chorus has performed through southwest Michigan and northwest Indiana, singing in a variety of venues. The group said they love spreading joy through their community performances and enriching the lives of others.

The chorus is always looking for new members and welcomes any male who loves to sing to visit Chorus practice on Thursday evenings at 7 p.m. at the Grace United Methodist Church in Niles. More information on the chorus is available at lighthousechorus.org.
